In this paper of mine, I would like to explain the phenomena of the H1N1 virus entering in man’s body and becoming A(H1N1) in a phenomenological view. I will also discuss how not possible is pairing in this situation. I would like to discuss also how the virus becomes part of man’s “sphere of owness” when it enters the human body. Before the A(H1N1) virus enters the human body, it is first called H1N1 virus. H1N1 virus is a virus that comes from the bird and transferred to the swine. When it enters man’s body, it is called A(H1N1) Virus. It is a pandemic influenza. The symptoms of this virus when it enters man’s body is fever, cough, sore throat, runny and stuff nose, diarrhea and vomiting, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.
Does the A(H1N1) Virus have a “body”?
The A(H1N1) virus does have a “body” but its “body” is not like the human body. We can see its “body” using the microscope. It has a very tiny and small “body” that one’s naked eyes cannot see. The “body” of the A(H1N1) virus is not like the human body. I just used the term “body” because it has a “form” if we will look at it in the microscope. It also occupies very tiny space. This virus has a “body” that is totally different from our human body. We don’t know what’s happening inside its “body.” We don’t know what is its natureinside and what it feels to be in the “body” of the virus. We don’t know also how it feels to be a virus and and how it’s body would react in different situations.
Does the A(H1N1) Virus have an Ego?
If we speak of the Ego, we refer to a self that is “conscious-of-itself.” When we were born, we don’t immediately have an ego. We start to have an ego during the time that we are already conscious of our self, conscious of our “I.” Our ego is inside our body. In seeing the Other’s body, we apperceive his ego. The ego is apperceived because it cannot be seen directly. What is perceived is the body alone and not the ego. The ego is inside our body. In relation to the A(H1N1) virus, if the virus has a “body”, does it have an ego? My answer is a half “no.” My answer is no because for me, the virus has no consciousness. It is not conscious of itself. Like the animals, the A(H1N1) virus just followsits instincts. Because the A(H1N1) is a virus, then its nature is to “destruct” and “destroy” the human body. When this virus enters our body, something weird will happen to us. We will also feel that we are slowly killed by this virus.
My answer in the question “Does the A(H1N1) virus have an ego?” is a half “no” because I am not 100% sure if it has an ego. I am not sure because I cannot experience what the virus experiences. I cannot tell the people exactly what happens in the virus and what happens inside the virus. I can just approximate it but this approximation of mine is not 100 % sure. I can only be sure with this if time will come that there will be a device or an instrument that can make us man enter the virus’ “sphere of owness” and experience what they experience. I cannot tell if the virus is aware of itself as a virus or not.
Is Pairing possible with Human’s Body and the Virus’ “body”?
Pairing is only possible if the body is present as the mediator. It first comes when the “Other” enters in the “I’s” field of perception which is only possible with the body. For pairing to happen, both the “I” and the “Other” must have the body. The body is the mediator in bridging the “I” to the “Other” and the “Other” to the “I.” In applying pairing, (in my view as the “I”), my “Body” is the “Leib” and the “Other’s” “body” is the “korper.” “Leib” is something like “this ‘Body’ is mine. My ego, which is the point of reference, is here in this ‘Body’ and I am aware of it.” “Korper” is something like “the sense of the other is in me but the other is the other and not me.” In “Other’s” view, his “Body” is the “Leib” and mine is the “korper.” My body as “I” is both “Leib” and “korper” and the “Other’s” body as “I” is also both “Leib” and “korper.” Even though I cannot verify the “Other” as existing because I cannot enter in his sphere of owness (I can only verify what is in my sphere of owness), at least I can say “I am not alone as man.” That person looks and behaves like me as man (concordant behavior). Maybe, he has an “I” also inside his body (approximation not verification- approximation for the “Other’s” body, verification for my body).” Through pairing, the “I” can approximate that he is not alone, that other “I’s” also exist. Pairing also supports the theory of intersubjectivity, a theory that says all subjects are connected. In relation to the A(H1N1) virus, is it possible that human’s body can be paired in the “body” of the A(H1N1) virus? My answer to this question is “no.” My answer is no even though we both have body because I cannot pair my “Body” with the virus’with the reason that we have different psychophysical nature. It’s useless to pair myself with the virus because we are totally different.
What Happens when the Virus enters Human Body?
Given the situation that the H1N1 virus enters my Body and becomes pandemic influenza A(H1N1) virus, what happens in the virus’ “body” is that, it becomes part of my “Body.” It becomes part of my “Body” because it becomes part of my “sphere of owness.” If we speak of the “sphere of owness”, we refer to the space that is occupied by our “Body.” Because the virus as it enters my “Body”,is inside my “Body”, then it becomes part of my “Body.” I own the virus already. What the virus does to me affects my “Body” and what I do to the virus affects itself also (through my antibodies and medicines). As a conclusion, when the H1N1 virus enters my “Body” and becomes A(H1N1) virus, it becomes part of me, part of my body and part of my “sphere of owness.”
